S2– Quotes about Deep Stuff

Here are some quotes that go with the theme of my novel.  Finding these were harder than I thought, so I’m not sure how much all of them will fit.  I’m planning to write about pressures from society, hypocrisy/ duality, truth, and the nature of humans, although I’m not quite sure how themes will play out yet.  Pictures from unsplash.com.

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

“The most important kind of freedom is to be what you really are. You trade in your reality for a role. You trade in your sense for an act. You give up your ability to feel, and in exchange, put on a mask. There can’t be any large-scale revolution until there’s a personal revolution, on an individual level. It’s got to happen inside first.” –Jim Morrison

“One of the greatest tragedies in life is to lose your own sense of self and accept the version of you that is expected by everyone else.”—K.L. Toth

“Finding what’s true means letting go of the lies that control.”—Emma Raveling

“Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing ever happened.” – Winston Churchill

“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” John 14:6 (NIV)

“There are three mistakes we make when dealing with other people: assuming they are just like ourselves, making them who we want them to be, and believing they’re who they say they are.” – S.K. Lupu

“The prettiest smiles hide the deepest secrets. The prettiest eyes have cried the most tears. And the kindest hearts have felt the most pain.” – Girl on Fire

“‘And now Conor, tell me, do you think you can kill?’

Conor considered everything Bonvilain had done to the Brokehart family.  ‘Yes,’ he said.  ‘I can kill.’

Linus Wynter smiled sadly.  ‘We all can,’ he said.  ‘God save our souls.’” – Airman, Eoin Colfer

“To be loved but not known is comforting, but superficial.  To be known and not loved is our greatest fear.” – Tim Keller

  1. Beautiful, Sarah!
That last one is so true! The second half it (known but not loved) makes me think of what Willoughby says about Colonel Brandon (Sense and Sensibility): “He’s the sort of person whom everyone thinks well of, but no one remembers to talk to.” (Even if he’s wrong.)
I think your quote was definitely my favorite. 🙂

  2. Quotes! Oh man. I love quotes. 🙂 This is great. And they really do give insight into your story. I can see what you meant by saying your story is all about nonconformity. I think I’m really going to enjoy it. =)
